In the historic neighbourhood of Colle Oppio, Studio 02A has renovated an old apartment. The studio breathes new life into this turn-of-the-century flat, making it both functional and inviting. Meanwhile, in Stoke Newington, Studio Merlin has curated a serene and clutter-free living space within a revamped flat designed for its founder, Josh Piddock. Below, we review the renovations where form and function are harmonised using blue accents and the warmth of the wood.
Colle Oppio
In Studio 02A's Colle Oppio, blue-coloured wall units are contrasted by parquet flooring in the kitchen and continue into the other parts of the house. The kitchen is built, rather than assembled, with three columns and a big island in the middle where the top and splashback are made with Capraia breccia slabs.
The corridor is designed with wardrobes on both sides that lead to a private bathroom. There is also a large sliding panel that separates the study from the bedroom area when needed.
A light blue wardrobe seamlessly integrates with the bedroom and bathroom doors, creating a sense of uniformity. Underneath, the solid parquet flooring hides a heating and cooling system, keeping the space comfortable year-round.
Studio 02A aimed for a stylish yet practical feel in the space, paying attention to details, using quality materials, brush-painted doors, and hand-sanded solid parquet flooring.

Maison Pour Dodo
Next, we look at Maison Pour Dodo by Studio Merlin, a captivating architectural and interior design renovation project in Stoke Newington, Hackney, London. The studio crafted an expansive and minimalist living space on the first floor while reconfiguring the second floor to accommodate a larger family bathroom.
Maison Pour Dodo blends a calming Scandinavian vibe with a subtle French touch. Pastel hues pair perfectly with natural whitewashed Douglas Fir flooring. The flooring extends up the walls in spots, creating smooth transitions and informal seating areas. Rounded edges soften the look. Furniture made from whitened Ash and Douglas Fir offcuts adds a welcoming feel and cuts down on waste.
The two-floor flat has lots of built-in storage. In the living and dining area, a floor-to-ceiling shelf holds books and ornaments. A cozy blue sofa sits at the center. Warm plaster-colored surfaces and pale Douglas Fir floorboards add to the calm.
The kitchen features deep-set IKEA cabinets with smoky blue fronts and a concrete counter. A small seating nook and open pantry-style shelves bring practicality and character.

The stairwell is a highlight. Blue paint mimics balustrades on the white walls, creating a striking effect. There's also a compact study nook with a desk and Douglas Fir stool. Custom curved bedside tables made from Douglas Fir offcuts add functional elegance.
The principal bathroom features terrazzo-style flooring and gold-tone hardware. Dark green walls and integrated vanity cabinets provide stylish storage.
