In this article, three remarkable homes, Villa Mandra, Casa Meco, and Island Rest, each offer a distinct interpretation of nature embracement, minimalism, and tranquility, incorporating warm wood tones into their designs.

Villa Mandra

Villa Mandra on the Greek island of Mykonos, designed by K-studio, is a stunning example of how the architectural heritage of a place can inform contemporary designs. The island's traditional aesthetic is immediately reflected on its exterior, showcasing stone, whitewashed walls, and a chestnut wood lattice pergola that shields its outdoor areas.

Inside, the interiors blend with the surroundings, featuring hand-built stone walls alongside traditional Greek whitewash and rounded corners. Concrete lintels frame wide doorways, while rough-hewn boulders outline the paths and stepping stones around the property. The living space boasts wooden furniture, a cozy grey sofa with textured cushions, and an abundance of plants and ceramics, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Linen, bronze, wood, and stone take center stage in the bedrooms, while the bathrooms boast satin white basins and marble counters.

Casa Meco

Casa Meco, designed by Atelier Rua, offers a square layout with four guest suites at the corners, each featuring private bathrooms, dressing areas, and personal patios. Its interior is a celebration of warmth, featuring a taupe-colored sofa, a massive timber dining table, creamy armchairs, woven rugs, and warm lighting.

At the center of the house, a spacious living area boasts a concrete ceiling and floor, while the kitchen area stands out with its striking marble island. Marble is also used for the tubs and basins in the bathrooms, with white curtains on racks providing privacy for the showers. Shaded terraces are carved into the sun-facing facades, connecting the interior with the outdoors.

Island Rest

Moving to the Isle of Wight, Island Rest is a vacation home that blends seamlessly with its natural landscape, erasing the line between outdoors and indoors. Clad in black-stained larch wood, this home is positioned at the highest point of the site to avoid flooding, supported by a grassy hill and elevated by metal poles.

Extensive glazing on both sides maximizes natural light and provides scenic views. The open-plan living and dining area features wooden floors and ceilings accentuated by a sleek black kitchen suite. The bedrooms are primarily covered in wood, offering simple design that encourages outdoor activities.
